# xarray.Coordinates.rename_vars

#### Coordinates.rename_vars(name_dict=None, \*\*names)[[source]](https://github.com/pydata/xarray/blob/main/xarray/core/coordinates.py#L860-L881)

Returns a new object with renamed variables.

* **Parameters:**
  * **name_dict** ([dict-like](https://docs.python.org/3/glossary.html#term-mapping), *optional*) – Dictionary whose keys are current variable or coordinate names and
    whose values are the desired names.
  * **\*\*names** (**optional**) – Keyword form of `name_dict`.
    One of name_dict or names must be provided.
* **Returns:**
  **renamed** ([`Coordinates`](xarray.Coordinates.html.md#xarray.Coordinates)) – Coordinates object with renamed variables
