# xarray.Coordinates.from_xindex

#### *classmethod* Coordinates.from_xindex(index)[[source]](https://github.com/pydata/xarray/blob/main/xarray/core/coordinates.py#L375-L402)

Create Xarray coordinates from an existing Xarray index.

* **Parameters:**
  **index** ([`Index`](https://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/reference/api/pandas.Index.html#pandas.Index)) – Xarray index object. The index must support generating new
  coordinate variables from itself.
* **Returns:**
  **coords** ([`Coordinates`](xarray.Coordinates.html.md#xarray.Coordinates)) – A collection of Xarray indexed coordinates created from the index.
